Getting here the straight version
Roads, parking and walking, with only a little attitude.
By car
- From Boston: Route 24 south, then Route 140 or I-195 the rest of the way. About an hour when traffic behaves.
- From Providence or the Cape: I-195 runs right through the city.
- Downtown and the waterfront: take Route 18.
- Also in the mix: Route 6 runs through the city too.
Parking
Park once downtown, then walk. On a summer Saturday, expect to circle the block a few times first.
On foot
The historic district is best on foot. The cobblestones are real, uneven and undefeated, so leave the heels at home.
